Fashion Inspiration: Bubble Tea

Fashion Inspiration - Coconut Bubble Tea

Blouse – Forever 21; Shorts – Delia’s; Sunglasses – PacSun; Sandals – Payless.

Mm, bubble tea - one of my favorite summer drinks. I’m kind of obsessed. Obsessed enough to create a whole outfit inspired by a cheap refreshment. But it’s delicious.

Of course, one of the first things you notice about bubble tea is the tapioca bubbles. That’s why I went for polka dot top, and sleeveless button-downs are super trendy this summer. The straws also usually come in bright colors, so I picked a pair of tailored red shorts – they’d be extra cute with the blouse half-tucked in.

Add some printed sunglasses for fun, and finish off the look with sleek beaded sandals. Now that I think about it, Charlotte from Girl Next Door Fashion recently blogged a really similar (and cute!) outfit. It’s like my Polyvore set come to life ;)

Have a good weekend, and grab some bubble tea! (Honeydew is my favorite.)

Independence Day

Sun Hat – Publix; Tank – Target; Pencil Skirt – Conway; Wedges – Payless.

Happy 4th of July, fellow ¡Americanos!

After Halloween and Christmas, the 4th of July is my favorite holiday. Which is a bit weird because I’ve never had an awesome/incredible/once-in-a-lifetime moment celebrating it, but I love the nostalgia of it. Lemonade, corn on the cob, burgers, beer, fireworks – that’s summer and America today. Of course, in my head, America = food. (How Liz Lemon of me.)

No fireworks for me this year, unfortunately, but my roommate Jillian and I got our barbecue fix at Dallas BBQ. SO GOOD.

I also decided my holiday outfit would be super girly – and another excuse to wear my new hat. (I guess it’s because it’s I used my point-and-shoot, but my navy skirt photographed as black.) It’s certainly a departure from last year’s 4th of July, which I spent in this dress before switching into shorts and my U.S. soccer jersey for a barbecue. And guys, I’m mixing prints. A woman at the restaurant even told me my “look” worked – sweet. Plus, I had a go at patriotic nail art:

Yeah, I call that a successful Independence Day. Enjoy the food and fireworks, everyone!

Pink Lemonade Cupcakes for a Summer Day

I’m not much of a baker, but that doesn’t stop me from wanting to make my own baked goods. And thanks to Google, I can find easy and fun recipes to try. That’s how I came across pink lemonade cupcakes. I adapted this recipe and this recipe, which I found on Pinterest (of course).

The premise is simple: prepare white cake mix according to directions on the box (mine called for two egg whites plus water):

Add about 3 tbsp. of pink lemonade mix:

Blend:

Pour:

Bake (again, according to the directions on the box):

And yes, there’s one missing because I needed to get my hands on a cupcake. I’m sure you can add food coloring to get more of a pink color, but the cupcakes come out a light pink. You can also make your own pink lemonade frosting. I took the easy way out, and mixed some pink lemonade powder mix to store-bought buttercream frosting. Easy-peasy!
