My Favorite Looks of 2012

Happy 2013 (almost)! I know a lot of blogs do style retrospectives, so I thought I’d post some of my favorite outfits of 2012 (though I didn’t have too many photos to pick from!). It’s especially fun to compare what I wore to my style resolutions for 2012 – I didn’t always keep them in mind, but I think I followed through with some of them anyway.

Truffula Trees Are What Everyone Needs

I wore this for an internship interview and just love the individual pieces – this chiffon-like printed top, the silk pencil skirt, the watch, the pumps. Yes, please.

Independence Day

My 4th of July outfit! And summer tan! Again, I like all the classic pieces, especially my sunhat, and I think it was a fun playful look for the holiday. All I needed was a pool to lounge by.

Tie-Dye Blues

The most colorful look of the bunch! If I didn’t have this blog, I’m not even sure this is something I would’ve worn! But I think I’ve grown in confidence – at least when it comes to my wardrobe.

Hawaiian Punch Print

I love this thrifted dress, and I’m glad I was able to find a way to wear it in slightly cooler weather. I think I may need to shop for a new chambray button-down though.

Election

Mostly because my red cords are one of the favorite new pieces in my closet. I’m wearing them now actually! Also leopard and another thrifted piece, my blouse. Love (and super comfy).

Happy New Year! I’ll be celebrating in Disney World Epcot tomorrow – we decided to take a last-minute road trip up to Orlando for the holiday. What does everyone else have planned? Any fabulous sequined outfits?

Food, Fun & Blogging

The last couple weeks have been crazy busy, but also super fun thanks to the Her Campus National Intercollegiette Conference and Kick Off Your Heels ’12 (sponsored by Stiletto Media). I don’t have much to say, except a) my feet are still recovering b) I met some awesome people and c) gift bags are awesome. And now, photos:

Brights with Black

Dress – Liz Clairborne (thrifted); Belt – Target (came w/ skirt); Wedges – Payless.

This is probably a fall/winter dress, because it’s black and I’m not quite sure what the print is. From far away it looks like dots or flowers, but up close I guess it’s actually little triangles.

Nail polish – Pink Rocks! (Milani Neon)

I bought this dress at Goodwill last winter break, and I wore it all the time to my internship, usually with bright tights and my black boots or oxford heels. That doesn’t work for summer though. So I decided to added a pink belt and wedges to freshen up the dress – it’s too cute to hide in my closet.

Today I’m participating in the Thrifter Thursday link-up at Coffee and Cardigans. You can see the other entries here.

Fordham Prep

Blazer – Forever 21; Dress – Target; Tights – Conway; Boots – Target; Bag – Target; Skinny belt – mom’s; Necklaces – H&M and gift; Earrings – Eastern Market.

Confession: these photos weren’t taken anywhere near Fordham’s campus, or by a Fordham student. Two Fridays ago, I had the pleasure of meeting up with my blogger friend Hannah (and NYU freshman), of Mademoiselle Hannah. She’s so lovely and gracious in person, and it definitely comes across in her writing – check out her blog!

We had lunch together and spent the rest of a blustery fall afternoon shopping. We stopped by the new Joe Fresh store – it’s a brand from Canada designed by one of the co-founders of Club Monaco. I may have gone a bit too far there, but I swear, I bought investment pieces! And things that were on mega-discount. We also did some thrifting in the Village, where I bought a Catherine Malandrino scarf for five dollars. NBD. So what if Hannah had to tell me who she was? ;-)

Of course we wouldn’t be proper bloggers if we didn’t stop to take outfit pictures. (You can see the outfit pictures I took of Hannah here.) This outfit is as preppy and as school-spirited as I’ll get without it being gameday. This is my first-ever blazer – I love the fleece fabric and the unexpected maroon color. My love affair with polka dots continues with this gray Target dress (it’s from the kids’ section!). I even added maroon tights and maroon and silver shatter nails to match!

So what have you all been up to? Looking forward to Thanksgiving? I have another Hitchcock paper to get through before the holiday, but I’ll be spending part of my break on Long Island and then Philly. I’m really looking forward to it – maybe I’ll even bake again. What are your plans?

Paper Doll Project: Summer Wind

It’s time for the July edition of the Paper Doll Project! I first participated in May, when I was paired up with Cathy. I had so much fun with it, I decided to join in again. This go around, I was paired with Ellen from The Socialite’s Closet. You can see how I styled her here.

I asked Ellen to help me style a brown, embroidered midi skirt I’ve had for years now. I bought it for Easter my freshman year of high school (!) and have only worn it a handful of times since. It’s a beautiful skirt though, and deserves to be seen! This is what Ellen’s inspiration for me was:

Paper Doll Project July
And then using the pieces I had in my own closet, I came up with this:
Tank – JcPenney; Skirt – Target; Charm Necklace – gift; Wedges – Payless.
What do you all think? It’s a simple outfit, and that’s what I love about it. It lets the skirt take center stage, but still keeps it youthful and fun. (One of the reasons I shy away from this skirt is because it makes me feel matronly sometimes.) Ellen suggested I wear a white tee, but it was way too hot in New York to wear anything with sleeves right now. This heat is so unbearable that it has me nostalgic for summers in Florida, even though my mom says it’s just as sweltering down South. Climate change isn’t something to joke about, kids. Can we discuss these wedges? When I came home for Easter, I found these sitting in my closet, waiting for me. My momma’s amazing like that. Even better, they’re comfy! I walked over two miles in them today (yay commuting!), and no blisters. You don’t always have to sacrifice comfort for style. I didn’t have a chance to pick up a clutch (how cute is the one Ellen picked out?) but I’ve been itching for one for awhile now. Someone needs to do a little shopping. What do you think of the end result? I think I’ll definitely be wearing this again soon! And stop by all the participants of the Paper Doll Project:
