Summer in the BX

Today was my last first day of school, probably ever (yeah senior year!). And I’m already in need of a vacation. For now though, I’ll just reminisce about summer. It was a wonderful three months in the Bronx, and I’m so grateful I had a chance to get to know the borough even better this summer. Some highlights, courtesy of Instagram:

Moving!

This week, I moved into my fall dorm! Above is the first impression (with my lucky bamboo plant already on my desk!), but it currently looks like a claustrophobic war zone. I’ve been super busy with interning and moving and unpacking to blog this week, but hopefully I can crank out a few posts before…gulp…senior year starts. It’s crazy but totally awesome to think that the next time I have to pack up, I’ll be leaving this dorm with a college degree. But hey guys, check out my view!

Food, Fun & Blogging

The last couple weeks have been crazy busy, but also super fun thanks to the Her Campus National Intercollegiette Conference and Kick Off Your Heels ’12 (sponsored by Stiletto Media). I don’t have much to say, except a) my feet are still recovering b) I met some awesome people and c) gift bags are awesome. And now, photos:

Fashion Inspiration: Bubble Tea

Fashion Inspiration - Coconut Bubble Tea

Blouse – Forever 21; Shorts – Delia’s; Sunglasses – PacSun; Sandals – Payless.

Mm, bubble tea - one of my favorite summer drinks. I’m kind of obsessed. Obsessed enough to create a whole outfit inspired by a cheap refreshment. But it’s delicious.

Of course, one of the first things you notice about bubble tea is the tapioca bubbles. That’s why I went for polka dot top, and sleeveless button-downs are super trendy this summer. The straws also usually come in bright colors, so I picked a pair of tailored red shorts – they’d be extra cute with the blouse half-tucked in.

Add some printed sunglasses for fun, and finish off the look with sleek beaded sandals. Now that I think about it, Charlotte from Girl Next Door Fashion recently blogged a really similar (and cute!) outfit. It’s like my Polyvore set come to life ;)

Have a good weekend, and grab some bubble tea! (Honeydew is my favorite.)

Hawaiian Punch Print

Chambray Button-down – Five Dollar Store; Dress – Motherhood Maternity (thrifted); Wedges – Ross.

Happy August, everyone! I can’t believe how quickly this summer has gone by, and I’m definitely not ready for it to be over. I’m not going to talk about depressing things like senior year today though. I haven’t blogged in about a week, but these pictures are actually from last week. It was a breezy and pleasant-enough day that layering up in chambray button-down seemed like a good idea.

I’ve had this button-down for ages, before it was even trendy – I featured it in my first-ever clothing haul on the blog. It’s a smidge too small though, and I’ve always struggled how to wear it. Some of my favorite bloggers do a really good job at it though – case in point Jenny in Jacquard, Style by Santina and Audrey from Putting Me Together.

To keep this look summery, I paired the button-down with my thrifted floral dress (last seen here). The thing about thrifting is that you have to keep an open mind. Take this dress – it’s maternity. I bought it when I was about to start college, obviously without having any intention to be a mom in the near future (still don’t, thanks for asking). But it’s a flattering fit, and the print is fun. And so this dress found a happy place in my closet.

I’m also linking up with Callie’s Coffee and Cardigans’ Thrifter Thursday again! Click here for all of the posts.
